What do you believe makes you so desirable?

People have told me that they like the way I carry myself, that I am honest, have the right attitude, and that I have the ability to stand up for what is right. Personally, I feel it has to do with the fact that I believe in myself and in just being me.

Who do you find desirable?

An individual? I find Bradley Cooper desirable, especially after his performance in Silver Linings Playbook.

You are equally appreciated for your roles in the Tamil film industry. Is there any reason you have always prioritized the Kannada film industry?

The audiences in both Tamil and Kannada have been equally warm and welcoming. While I have spent a number of my growing years studying in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka is home. Kannada films is where I started my career and here is where I have carved a niche for myself. I am comfortable in my own space here.

They say the shelf life of an actress is limited. But 10 years later, you continue to be on top. What's the secret?

The fact that I was a thorough professional throughout is probably what has worked in my favour. I had no godfather. I did not go by the norms of the industry. Instead, I stood up for myself. I relied on my instincts to choose the right path.

How have you managed to stay ahead of the competition?

Staying ahead of the competition is not in the hands of an actor. Filmmakers approach an actor with scripts. An actor takes up what he or she thinks is good. If the audience thinks so too, then you stay ahead. I have been lucky to have gotten some good work coming my way all these years. However, I believe there is enough space for everybody in the industry.

Your political career took off briefly before you took a backseat. Any future plans with regard to that?

Being a part of the film industry, people learn to deal with both success and failure. The same holds good for any other field. While people say politics is not the right place to be in, I believe it is up to you to make the place right. In the near future, I hope to be able to do something good for the people of Karnataka.

What exactly is your relationship status currently?

(Laughs) Still trying to figure it out myself.

Ajith to grace Rajinikanth’s Kochadaiyaan Audio Launch

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Ajith is Kollywood’s Aamir Khan. After all, Ajith too steers clear of all events, be it audio launches, award functions or trailer launches like Aamir.
